BTW this is a key detail in delineating what is shoujo and what is not. In otome and other shoujo-adjacent content for boys like Bocchi the Rock or Bocchi the Witch or Bocchi the Saint, the boy characters are completely inert when they aren't comic relief or foils for the heroine, but when girls are the target demographic a primary objective is developing the male love interest and making you want him to fuck you
