Reminder that a good anime adaptation is rarely about the quality of the source material or even it's budget but if the people involved in it are actually dedicated to making a good product and not just going with the motions because they were paid to do it.

I think Monogatari is a good example of this. The novels alone might not be too special. But the perfect match was made between the novels and the studio (Shaft). A perfect avant-garde playground to allow them to do everything they want. Resulting in an anime that is working on 20 years and is still the same high quality. I think Shaft in general has the adaptation process down though. They like working very closely with the creator. They are one of the few studios that really embrace the otaku romanticism too and thus put love into everything. Nearly every other instance of passion and good adaptation is connected to them in some way.

I know that manga is very mid since I dropped it hundred chapters in or so well before the anime was out, but I have to deliberately exercise my snobbish restraint to avoid picking up the high production value adaptation.
Life as otaku of good taste is filled with challenges like this, but it's the noble, worthy path

DDD has a really strong start, to be fair, and it only starts coming off the rails around the Zuma arc, when it becomes clear the writer only has one trick, because they were forced into writing things this way by their editor in order to engineer a product with maximum broad appeal.

SakaDays is a 6/10 and would be a 3/10 if it wasn't for the art. The plot is boring and the characters are dull and forgettable. The studio decided to skip the art and put no effort into the action but didn't work around the faults of the original and it made a 1/10 anime as a result.

Dandadan is great though I honestly like it better than sakamoto days
