Those are basically a transcribed delusion and will get no attention without anime covers.
LN authors should all thank their illustrators for illustrating their anime characters in a tangible way.

It's basically an industry built around anime screenplay pitches. They're universally better-written than manga btw, especially for adaptation.

The reverse is true. Manga adaptations always flow better just because of the format. LN anime usually have bad moment to moment pacing, weak episode climaxes, and missing important monologues.

>bad moment to moment pacing, weak episode climaxes
That's manga. Manga chapter climaxes oftentimes fall right in the middle of the A part FFS, not to mention the extremely clunky emphasis of major panels in moving manga.
>missing important monologues
Circumstantial at most. The larger gap between LNs and anime forces studios to actually make it fit the medium rather than being a glorified color version with downgraded pacing and inexplicably downgraded art.

It's also worth noting that the Japanese have a particular fondness for physical media like LNs and BDs, which is important for understanding how the LN -> Anime supports itself. It's honestly baffling how much heavy lifting that a small number of Otaku (relative to nationwide/worldwide viewership) are the lifeline of the industry.

It's more about merch sales. Always has been, but more true now that streaming has effectively replaced TV. Plus piracy is actually illegal over there.

I never understood how they became popular. Just take a look at J-Novel Club, there's so many shit light novels, the artists are wasted on the medium. The authors cannot write at all.

They're essentially fanfiction that's actually gotten looked over by a real editor. Most LNs are adapted from WNs (web novels).
But they are still called "light" novels for a reason, the writing quality is usually very poor.

Look man, not everything needs to be Osamu Dazai or Yukio Mishima levels of deep. Sometimes you just want to enjoy a simple, easily digestible short book to pass the time. See how 99% of anime isn't some form of high art? it's the same shit for books especially LIGHT novels. Also watanare's author is like the biggest Eku Takeshima fan and thanks her all the time.

Luckily BL is free of this trash.
Japan came in too late that China and Korea stopped BL LNs from becoming a serious thing.

They're now coming after Yuri with the baihe wave

It really is just a anime / manga screenplay industry. Instead of traditional publishers which have some editorial standards and therefore must be reviewed before being let into a pulp / short story magazine, online self-publishing opens it up to everyone without being filtered by editorial gate-keepers. As a result most of if it trash but some rise to the top and these attract the attention of manga and anime publishers which is what everyone (who’s serious about it) is after.

Most of the time the manga is the better way to read the story anyway

The hate for LNs (literally marketing term to sell books) is always so fascinating to watch. Threads are filled with hottest pseud shit takes imaginable. And it always muh real books and muh writing. All this from anons who watch retarded cartoons (only exist to promote source material) and japanese comics. The same anons who barely can read subs and follow the most basic plot from seinen manga.
