There's a lot of terminology that was commonplace among anime otaku that seems forgotten nowadays, specifically referencing aesthetic choices or visual tropes
>Dezaki sea
>Postcard memories
>SHAFT tilt
>Yutapon cubes
>Gainax bounce / Gainaxing
>Inazuma kick
>YAS-waist
>Tomino shock / Gundam negative
What else am I forgetting?

Yeah but it was popularized in anime, especially among Western fans, via Gunbuster
>isn't there a better term for this?
In Japanese it's called ๆญขใ‚็ตต (tomee), literally "picture-stopper" or "image that halts the movement".
I don't know why in the West it became Postcard Memories

The greatest

The real answer is that 90% of otaku terminology (including otaku itself, mind you) is now outdated due to shifting cultural slang/demographics for anime marketing. Shows are no longer "ecchi", they're "gooner"; batches of 12 episodes are no longer "cours", they're individual "seasons" etc.

Around 2010 you had a lot of series airing split cours so people adapted the Japanese notion of perceiving each cour of a series on its own. Additionally cours is a decent measurement for the length of a series.
Season as a concept isn't clearly defined and it gets used in many different ways.

first people spelled the long o like anything else. choji.
then you had chouji, or gigaweebs doing chลji.
then we all realized that was stupid, and went back to choji.

It's a strange story.
The use of this specific term is kinda bizarre: using cubes to represent kinetic destruction as existed since 1965 as far as I know, as seen in this cut by Yasuo Otsuka
>https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/218840
Just a quick comparison with Nakamura, look at 14 seconds here:
It's almost the same animation, and there are countless examples in between; the main reason, I believe, for Nakamura to become the namesake of this specific style was due to the coincidental birth of the mass social media around 2007-2012 and his rise as arguably the most notable action animator of the last fifteen years, which made so that his cuts became so shared that people associated the cubes with him directly.
For about ten years you only read Yutapon Cubes, but I would say that this has chenged with the advent of the new generation of younger animators, whom had Nakamura as an example and were born in a post-social media world, so they saw the cubes as an inherent part of action animation and incorporated into their style without thinking.
Nowadays the cubes are noted but are less commonly referred as Yutapon, which is almost comical seeing that he wasn't the creator of that tecnique in the first place.

It's a reference to ใƒคใ‚นใƒ’่…ฐ
YAS is Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, chara designer of the OG Gundam
He used a very distinctive contrapposto, a classical proportion tecnique where the body stands with most of its weight on one foot, so that its shoulders and arms twist off-axis from the hips and legs in the axial plane.
His contrapposto was very forward balanced, giving characters in standing an almost twisting pose
If you watch OG Gundam when characters turn and twist is VERY noticeable how much their weight shifts due to this chara design
It was quite influential back in the day

There are a lot of different ways in cell animation to make light/glowing effect.
One method is >>280539234, but the example is you posted is underlightning/ Bipack Glow, where basically there are two layers, the one with the glowing effect that is only drawn where the light is and left dark, and the one with the character (in this case) that is later put on top and then filmed with a backlight
There's a good explanation here

The modern school of sakuga is totally different of what the older generation saw as good.

I remember fifteen or so years ago I was reading an article on Cracked.com (lmao what a trip) about some trans and their life
And I remember how their said that "trap" was common slang where they lived, referring to male trans that looked like attractive women, and he didn't like it, he felt like it implied he was deceiving people
Maybe nowadays people changed to femboy because trap may have negative connotations in that sense?

Yes, that's exactly how it started. Trap was declared a slur so normalfags completely stopped using it. Since then the replacement f*mboy has had its definition broadened to be the "safe" term for basically any attractive male that isn't a caricature of masculinity. It's even used for cute teenage boys and younger who have no feminine features whatsoever to tacitly avoid the implication that their cuteness is due to their youth.

Know all of these except Dezaki sea, Inazuma kick, and Tomino shock. I don't remember hearing Yutapon cubes described as such. I always called them Nakamura cubes or included them under a broader category of Nakamura sakuga.
If the others are being forgotten, especially SHAFT tilt, then I'd be honestly surprised. It's not like Monogatari is from the 80's, and Off and Monster Season finished less than a year ago.
It wouldn't surprise me if Gainax bounce was forgotten because fanservice has become so ubiquitous.

I think the term got mileage because masterbation is much less taboo now. If everyone is expected to masturbate, people felt the need to come up with something to refer to someone who does it too much. As for why people don't just say porn addict, I think it's because people think gooner is more derogatory. An addict is someone with a sickness, to which one feels pity towards.

The older ones are usually transliterations of Japanese Jargon or glosses.
>ใƒใ‚นใƒˆใ‚ซใƒผใƒ‰ใƒกใƒขใƒชใƒผใ‚บ
"Postcard Memories" or just "a Dezaki" in English is what the man himself wanted to call it, the cuts/transitions to paintings.
>ใƒใƒผใƒขใƒ‹ใƒผใ‚ปใƒซ
"Harmony Cel" Pic related. It's not just a painting. The vast majority of "dezakis" are really this, the cel line art is taped directly to the painting and photographed.
>ใƒใ‚คใƒฉใ‚คใƒˆใ‚ปใƒซ
"Highlight Cel" Top layer cel with specular highlights, in OP's webm the bars of light
>้€้Žๅ…‰ใฎ่ฃๆ‰“ใก
"transmitted light underlayment" which is usually glossed simply to "underlight" (I see digital era nips just shorten this to ้€้Žๅ…‰ "transmitted light" but I don't think it was so abbreviated back when it was in use in the analog era) the sea in OP's webm, where they stick a light or a sheet of retroreflective material behind a painting with holes cut into it, so it shines through. It's also fundamentally
>ๅคš้‡้œฒๅ…‰
"Multiple Exposure" where the bright light of the underlight precludes shooting this in a single exposure (it would just wash out and all look white), so it's shot with mattes. If that means nothing to you and you want a good pictorial anime example there's this:
