>Why? I hate him, he's constantly sexually harassing me, making fun of me, always rubbing in my face how much better he is.
>So why am I so happy and blushing so much just because he gave me a necklace and says it looks good on me? I hate him right?
>God, I can't stand him
Is this not the finest type of love story in existence?

Yeah I feel you have to enjoy the humor too.

It's mostly just well known because it basically popularized the trope I feel but it's like what, 25 volumes so it'd get boring quickly if that were all it was?

Good stories of this kind are honestly more condensed, 8 chapters or something is fine.

Misaki also has huge hands in this shot for instance, they're not always this big.

I didn't like the ending to this series, with the generic timeskip separation and them getting married at 25, like a good Japanese automaton. The ending also implies they're both going to be busy wageslaves who will rarely have time for each other.

Do you actually just go into this kind of stuff and watch all 24 episodes with the impression that Usui, not Misaki was the main character.
That is really weird and bizarre. That's like watching Star Wars IV and leaving it with the impression that Obi Wan Kenobi, not Luke Skywalker was the main character

There's been an increase in retards trying to pit shoujo love interests against shounen MCs like they're even made for the same purposes or have the same roles. It's usually ex shounen fags trying to come off as sophisticated but then you get utterly idiotic posts like the one you replied to which make it obvious they're operating under a completely warped, out of touch perspective.

Yes, I noticed that. It's really weird.
They actually seem to believe they are the main characters like unironically and when pressed further they typically just don't respond. Like that one anon who keeps thinking that Wotakoi is some kind of netorare title because the protagonist had many past lovers and seriously thinks the love interest is the protagonist and just doesn't respond when you point out how weird that is.

Also, plenty of shoujo love stories with male protagonists and female love interests by the way. It's often pretty good because they're clearly less afraid then on average to make the protagonist less pure.

Shut up. I'm not interested in the "ideal" marriage age that scientists, statistics, and modern society have come up with. Manga shouldn't be beholden to real life values. It's on the same level as high school characters no longer being allowed to ride a bike in tandem because it's now against the law in Japan.

The good part was that Misaki finally admitting to being in love with Usui was a rant of hatred with Misaki hating Usui till the bitter end but also falling in love with him rather than the garbo “You're totally forgiven and I'm now completely in love with you ze end.” crap but yeah after that nothing eventful.

This is the difference between an actual romance story like The Fault in Our Stars or Brokeback Mountain and vapid wish fullfilment that has no real planned plot.

The moment leading up to Misaki finally realizing it was also so stupid.
>22 episodes of utterly stagnant relationship with the same admittedly amusing crap repeated over and over again of Misaki being in utter denial
>Last two episodes, Misaki suddenly starts to realize it, no reason given why and boom, then the final ending kiss.

These people can't write a story, they can write what turns them on, there is a difference. The endings often feel utterly fangless and pointless and they just get together and get married and then have children and that's it. It doesn't end with something that has an impact on the reader at all and it's utterly formulaic.

I really dislike these kinds of love stories that don't have a beginning, middle or end, it's just a countless wall of the same shit repeated until finally at the end they get together with no real plausible reason why then and not sooner.

The way you write it just leaves me with no emotion. It is an art form, it should be something like this
>Why... I hate him so much, he's so mean and forceful and constantly messes with me.
>But someone, when he touches me I just can't say no to him and get swept away...
>Why... I hate him...
It's also important to get the dramatic image with it.

Anyway, we can all agree that all those people who seriously go into female-protagonist/male-love interest stories and think the latter is the main character should just be gassed right?

Like, what are they thinking. They always evade it when I ask them about their motivations and reasons so I really don't know how they can come to that conclusion, it just feels like such an utterly weird thing to think. Do they actually really think that Usui is the main character of this title? That is such a weird perspective.

To that end, one of the greatest romance stories ever was Tasogare Otome x Amnesia. The romance is tied directly into the main plot of learning the heroine's mysterious past. The hero keeps digging deeper, trying to uncover what happened to her to help her, which causes friction between them, but ultimately brings them closer. Then the final revelation of what happens is also the climax of their relationship and the story itself.

Anon, no one uses the word “hero” and “heroine” in English to mean “male lead” and “female lead” outside of awkward translations from Japanese and even then, people who use the word “male lead” and “female lead” are typically either virgins or people caught in a loveless, sexless marriage dulling their pain with bad romance novels where they get to date Fabio.

“male lead” and “female lead” are fine English terms, you're just a virgin if you use them.
Most people just use names of characters to be honest. I've never seen anyone refer to Eren as the “male lead” of Attack on Titan, that's just weird.

Or just “one of the main characters, while the other ...”
All those terms sound like normal English without necessarily betraying that the writer is a colossal virgin.

If you’re an adult you shouldn’t be this confused about how attraction works between the sexes. Women value status above everything else, and so being teased by and being the center of attention of a high-status man is highly desirable for a woman. Similar to all these pretend-fetish threads about osananajimis, tsunderes, evil women, incest, etc, the only thing that matters to men is her appearance. No one goes into an evil women thread and asks “why are men like this” because we all understand that literally nothing else matters besides the woman’s appearance. Woman are similar to men but also different in some major ways, and this is one of them. If you’re an adult this should be known by you already.
