If Hikari was happy about the letter, I would declare that it was my true feelings.
If Hikari was upset, I would get away with it by saying that it was something my friend had done on their own accord.

If I could confirm my childhood friend's feelings like that and then decide on my stance, I wouldn't be deeply hurt...
That underhanded, calculating, and nasty side of me was starting to show up, at least a little.

...Well, in the end, such shallow schemes were no match for Hikari's flash of justice.

"So, from now on, if you ever run into any problems, don't hesitate to tell me, okay?"
"Y-yes... I'm counting on you."

The important part would be his reaction to it. If he blames it on her or on himself, if he gets worried that maybe it's her family who forced her to cut contact or if he's all about what did I do to deserve it etc.

I still think Hikari should have compromised and just kissed Yuu and cut contact with Yami. That would have been objectively the best ending.
