Nosebleeds as a reaction to arousal were never meant to make literal sense, even in Japan. The trope started gaining traction in the 1970s as a comedic exaggeration, not something rooted in deep cultural meaning. It caught on simply because it was a lighthearted, visually funny way to show arousal without being explicit but that doesn’t mean it’s good. It’s confusing and the reaction should be axed because it’s only basis for existence is “it’s something that happens in anime”.
