This shit is a pattern Fujimoto does where he makes the MC exactly what he would want himself to be accepted as, then he make a huge fan like the oblivion NPC just to worship him and reflect how he feels about himself. It has zero to do with the story, there was a moment in part 1 where people were clearly saying Chainsaw man is their hero and giving him blood and saying they believe in him...Denji did NOT care when most of them died. This is just 100% the author externalizing his own neurosis.
