Just finished Texhnolyze. Anyone want to point out what makes it one of the best anime ever made? I'm willing to entertain the idea that I was just too stupid to get it, but how? Most of the show is drab shallow mafia shit and then when it goes all surreal/avant-garde at the end you have no reason to care because none of the characters were well explored. It honestly comes off like something an edgy teenager would make. Why was Ichise so fixated on Ran at the end when they didn't have any relationship and barely spoke?

Movies, shows and even anime that say nothing and end with surrealist bullshit often get praised by shitty critics that look at the colorful splatter on the screen and interpret novel lengths of babble to justify the experience. Same reason 2001: A space odyssey, Evangelion, and Paprika are praised.

2001 is actually profound though (its actually relatively simple too), and Evangelion also has a good red strength pulling us through. Paprika is weak and cannot pull itself together

Evangelion is basically the opposite of this, the surrealism it embraces at the end is so gripping because it's amplifying the feelings of two of the most complex characters in fiction. And they are explored through fun, memorable, often comedic vignettes (the show is literally monster of the week for a fraction of its length). Haven't seen the the other two.

>one of the best anime ever made
It's not even that director's best anime. Texh itself is a slow paced mess.

Kubrik is all about double meanings and subtext though?

It isn't. You fell for an immature fanbase's circlejerk.

How much you like this depends on how impressed you are by the last couple of episodes, if you have never seen a sci-fi before it might impress you easily but is not really that interesting.

How was the monolith and everything after arrival coherent?

What was the deep subtext of the monolith ending scenes?

It amazes me how over the course of my browsing /a/ people have completely lost the ability to appreciate this show

There's nothing to get, it's 2deep4u nihilistic garbage. I deeply regret wasting my time watching it, but I kept giving the writers the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was going somewhere. You can imagine how mad I was when it ended the way it did.

People bandwagon it a lot but I genuinely love the visual direction, world and how the characters come together to play a part in it. It's good scifi.

What's surreal or 2deep4u about it? It's a relatively straightforward show. If you can't follow along it's a you problem
