>>280736678 (OP)It's overrated but also decent enough that it makes sense as a series to recommend people check out at least once. I feel like sometimes the aesthetics/concept are stronger than the actual show, like each individual episode isn't always great but the presentation is always solid.
I do agree with this
>>280737320 The first half feels like there's some sort of progress being made every few episodes in terms of either learning more about Spike or new people joining the crew, then it feels like it gets kind of stagnant for a while. I get the second half is going more for a theme of the past catching up to people but it doesn't flow together as well as the early stuff, and the mid-series episodes start feeling pretty weak for a while before it picks up again near the end. Spike also feels like he fades into the background the more the crew grows, like sometimes he does nothing until an action scene at the end while in the early show he's clearly the focus.
I kind of hate Ed, and I don't think her presence is really much of a factor in the second half feeling weaker since she does surprisingly little, but it doesn't help either.
I think the movie is actually bad and lacks a lot of the stronger aspects of the series. The show is overrated but in a way that actually feels deserved, while the movie's just overrated.
