Demons judge people by their magic aura, like how humans judge people by their clothing, wealth, etc. To a demon, Frieren with her aura hanging out would look like a great queen, someone who must be feared. The problem is, if she were to walk around like that, demons would avoid her at all costs so by suppressing the aura, demons will see her someone who’s only a little stronger than the average human and feel that they can come at her. It’s to bait them in. That’s the reason given by the narrative. The REAL reason, the meta reason, is that Frieren is a shounen manga protagonist and as such she is NOT ALLOWED to start fights with enemies, enemies MUST attack her first. Notice how the narrative tries really hard to make it look like this magic stealth tactic is super edgy, ie, trampling on the pride of mages or whatever, how demons are SO SHOCKED that anyone would do something so unthinkable as to suppress one’s one aura, etc? All of that is just cover for the fact that it’s bending to the absolute JP moral requirement to not start fights so it wants to make it look cool instead of what it is, clownishly cucked.
