You can compare them easily. Anime "adaptations" are inferior derivatives of the original work that lose the quality of the artwork and the emotional impact of the author's intent. It's the filtering of light through a dirty lens and all you get in the end is what the director and his low budget team that were the "important" parts.

Anime is, by and large, trash. At least in the 90s they had the balls to just forego doing a straight 1:1 adaptation and create new and strange things out of the original premises. You got a lot of filler episodes out of the deal, which counterintuitively heightened the long-term emotional connection with the series. But it was a hell of a lot better than just "the exact thing you already read, but inferior and with terrible voice casting choices".

People who watch modern "anime adaptations" are literally those people who don't have internal voices and can't replicate the dialogue in their heads.
