Do you expect me to believe that a guy was soooooooo distracted by coins falling from a grandfather clock that he wouldn't look at where the coins possibly came from, but directly look at the coins and start picking them up leading to his murder?

Do you expect me to believe that an African slave survived miraculously survived death when they were being killed to hide secret gold, was buried six feet under under a mass grave, had the strength and stamina to dig himself out, and ran out at full strength, with the only other person there not seeing him because "he was black and it was night lmao"? The anime was not made popular by a good mystery, but mainly by the interplay of characters. It was also refreshing to see a work of this tone take racism and other issues seriously.

i actually quite liked the mysteries, not the individual mysteries per say but how they all connected up in the end, i didnt expect it at all for most of the show and all the pieces were actually there to put together. maybe my standards are lower since ive only watched tv mystery and haven't read any mystery novels tho,,,

I was impressed with the mysteries at the start because it didn't feel like insanely lucky guessing but then it just became insanely good guessing yet again because writing a master detective without being one is quite hard.

>Interplay
The interplay is shit because the deuteragonist was gutted into a self-insert in the adaptation apparently. From what I heard he isn't like that in the source but their interplay is nonexistent, that's the issue and it's really not clear why they are so close. Or rather, it feels like both just don't have any other friends.

Imagine if this was actually a brain and brawn title and Kazuya wasn't the most useless fucker on the planet but rather this “third son of an imperial officer” was actually trained since childhood in all sorts of combat art and packed a serious punch in a fight despite looking so cute and innocent. Hell, they should've just suddenly revealed this in the third episode or something during that one fight when no one sees it coming that he just owns fools like it's nothing there and from that point on becomes highly relevant beating the shit out of people when required and looking really good doing so.

But alas, boring self-insert can't look good because else virgins can't self-insert any more.
