I generally speaking agree, but I think Mikadono actually utilizes shading pretty tastefully. Like on that spread, it's not done to the point of being too messy like in many other series. There's a clear separation between bacground and foreground, the shadows are well-defined, and the lighting emphasizes their cinematic entry. I also personally like atmospheric effects like the floating speckles.
