Most of them are morally grey round characters while not being nihilistic nor pessimistic. Even the antagonists are fleshed out. The animation is great since he cleverly uses limited animation without it feeling extremely cheap. His run cycles are 4 frames instead of 8 like your standard disney film.

Webm related looks like a rotating 3d background, but it is just two layer sliding left and two layers sliding right. IF it were done by other anime directors it would just have one sliding background layer or horrid looking CG that looks off.
The only criticism that I have for it is the English localization. They removed Joe Hisashi's synth+woodwind score and added a bunch of bombastic orchestral sounds in scenes that were meant to be quiet. If you liked Frieren, you should watch the Japanese version.

That said, you won't appreciate it greatly if you aren't an animator or filmmaker. They don't do fun stuff like Castle of Cagliostro
