Which manga/anime are a non-entity outside of Japan but are well-known inside of it?
Sales are easy to track so I'm mostly wondering about their impact in the industry. Like how Kinnikuman originated a lot of shounen tropes that people attribute to other series.

All of these have been decently successful outside of Japan.

Having a 40 years run is insane. Those who entered the workforce when it started retired by the time it ended.

Key word is decently. Obviously some areas of the world will know about them if they got dubbed into their languages. But even in those countries it's a case-by-case situation which one is popular and which one simply exists.
I think Ushijima might be the best example of a manga being completely unknown outside of Japan. Despite the fact it gets referenced constantly.

Kinnikuman had its moment of fame here and is still remembered by those who saw it, but the death of the official Toei's distributor left the dub unfinished (that killed Kamen Rider Kuuga's old dub too)

Pretty much everything made before Dragon Ball. Weebs refuse to acknowledge the existence of anything made before DB.
