It's a surprisingly commonly abused trope and very easy to get wrong if you can't write drama. Kotoyama can't write drama.

Kotoyama seems very confused on what he wants to write, at first we get a nice comfy slice of life manga about dorks falling in love, then it devolves into mystery eventually turning into psuedo shonen and is now just stuck on trying to be a drama and a terrible one at that. It doesn't help that his pacing is horrible on top of that, I will give him credit on writing characters that you absolutely despise because kiku is insufferable and I can't wait for her to hopefully get killed off soon.

As for this one, it was alright. The actual text on page was fine, but I can tell we're so clearly heading for a talk no jutsu ending. It's such a shame, because this manga is really really good until we head towards the conclusion of an arc. At that point, the mangaka clearly has no courage to commit to an ending where anyone is unhappy.
Overall, I still really like this manga. However, I maintain that it would be a 10/10 if only it stayed lighthearted all the time. The serious arcs have been a drag

Everyone talks about how Kiku is a murderous bitch who deserves to die but as Nazuna points out in the next chapter, Kou isn't a moralfag at all and doesn't actually care if people die. He cares about having the freedom to do his own thing, and he wants his friends to have that same freedom too

One of my biggest pet peeves with Viz is that they use first names everywhere, which is particularly egregious when Nazuna calls Anko "Kyouko" instead of "senpai"
