Usugoi
One of the greatest things I’ve ever had the privilege of reading. I remember seeing it posted in OPT’s years ago and after reacquainting myself with Kaiji and other gambling manga, finally dove into Usugoi and came out the other end feeling different.
Who’s your favorite Referee? Favorite gamble? Favorite panel? Big reveal?
I couldn’t believe what I was reading during that ‘crucial second’ in Surpassing the Leader
Did this ever get a story time?

It did, last year. Usogui is incredible, Air Poker and Surpassing the Leader best matches bar none.
>I couldn’t believe what I was reading during that ‘crucial second’ in Surpassing the Leader
Btw Usogui is one of the few manga that actually have multiple instances of foreshadowing that shine on a second reread.
Now read the Usogui Gaiden written for the recent adaptation, but mind the art is Batuquefied as fuck.

Hell yeah dude thanks, I’ll be skimming through this for a while
>>280785105
I was planning on reading his new boxing manga, how’s that so far? I saw a new chapter just dropped recently
Also yeah, Air Poker and Surpassing the Leader are untouchable, I can’t think of a manga with a better final battle.
I think an underrated gamble is the creamer game played by leader and the broadcast leading up to tower of karma with the L-File being threatened to be released to the public.
This is certainly something that needs a reread, there’s a lot to digest

Going by memory, there's foreshadowing for
-Island's mastermind
-+1 sec, multiple times
-Usogui fate in future duel after Surpassing the Leader
And much more. I'm pointing out three that I still remember years later.
Most importantly, a reread will put Hal/Usogui flashback more into context. Because there's something Baku knows through all the main events, while the manga pretends he doesn't.
>new boxing manga
Right now I don't want to check it. I'll let some chapters out, first. Tbh I'm not a fan of his fighting scenes (not saying they aren't good, but his true strenghts lie elsewhere)

>there's something Baku knows through all the main events, while the manga pretends he doesn't.
And since I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about, now you know that some of the stuff he says to leader have double entendres.
The power of a mangaka who actually PLANS HIS SHIT, instead of doing retroactive confirmations and pretending they are foreshadowing (cough-cough Eiichiro Oda cough-cough), is unmatched.
Another author that plans the long run is Yana Toboso, the one from Black Butler. It's a completely different genre, but if you read Black Butler paying close attention and then you reread it, you'll notice there's LOTS of stuff hidden in plain sight.

the fuck is that head. Is the artist tracing a 3d model and making the head or maybe the other way around?
And it doesn't end there, look at the neck it's completely disjointed from the torso

It's so simple
Perhaps extend the time to 24hrs

Air poker was absolutely kino from beginning to end. Even though the final game had a great twist I feel like the game itself was weak and didnt live up to the hype of them two finally facing off against each other. The backstory was great though.

Usogui should be constantly praised to somehow manage both the most absurd twists I've seen in a gamble manga and nigh immaculate foreshadowing. Getting to this page on a reread got a very rare but audible "Holy fucking shit" out of me. Talk about playing the long con here.
