She really does just win almost every race the same exact way. Just a fucking spurt at the end and everyone is like WHOAOAOAH HOW etc.

You wanna know why? It checks all the boxes for a good show. It has quality animation. It has good humor I found myself laughing occasionally and I consider myself very cynical. It had cute moments between the cast, seeing them warm up to eachother and grow is the pinnacle of humanization. It had good drama, Oguri had her rivalry and despite being painted as dumb muscle she still left me in tears with her words. Most importantly it has good writing. You can see here towards the end it picks up if we're taking xitter normies opinions, but genuinely the twist episode at the derby had me emotionally distraught. I've never once been so blind sided by a twist like that. I downloaded the manga I can't wait for season 2 and her redemption vs that little gremlin shithead.

Slice of life is good, music is good, animation is good, it carries the show. The racing is ok, the sports aspect of uma musume is never that exciting after awhile. Even people who play the game just skip their race and view the results to save time.

Movie was completely carries by animation imo, it has alot of side characters that don’t really do anything for me. You have a made up horse like belno and shes already a better side character than anything in a new era.

Nothing wrong with pointing out a gripe. They did focus on strategy a bit with her first trainer and how to effectively run on the track, and they never really how examples of why being stuck in the middle of a pack is bad.

Like with any good sports dramas, what makes it great isn't the actual sport itself (in this case, the running), but the athletes and their struggles.
Similarly, I don't give a shit about boxing, but I was able to love Rocky and Million Dollar Baby, because they weren't movies about boxing. They were movies about boxers. Important difference.

That's just as stupid as caring about MAL score.
Only the japs that matter and they like it since day 1.

It's interesting how it skyrocketed after the first few episodes. It wasn't that the first few episodes were bad (far from it, I think the initial Kasamatsu arc is still one of the best in the entire manga), but because the average normalfag refused to give it a try for obvious reasons.
It also helped that a lot of the other anime shows at the time that the average normalfag thought was supposed to be AOTS material (Lazarus, Gcucks, etc.) hadn't shat the bed yet and exposed how bad they truly were in the first few episodes, so normalfags were still enamored by those.

I think that's a terrible way to look at it I try to keep up with all trends. Some shows aren't popular in JP but gain huge traction here in the west.

I agree her opening arc was fantastic and set the stage for everything to come perfectly but man the hallucination race after the cut away with the president talking to the director fucked me up. Honestly their writing is just getting better they've nailed a lot of good side stories and main stories across all their IPs but I think Uma has seriously topped most of cygames previous works.
