Damaged elves
Something I've been mulling over is The Fake Alchemist vs. The Apothecary Will Make This Battered Elf Happy. Jiro Sugiura (most know them from My Wife Has No Emotion) is the author of The Fake Alchemist, which I feel apes the whole damaged elf premise. Worse yet, TFA is an isekai, but it doesn't need to be an isekai. Maybe it was a choice the author made early in the series only to realize it wasn't that important.

Part of what makes isekai interesting is the "fish out of water" situations you can create with it. So far, TFA only really uses it as an excuse for the protag not knowing things. I feel like the same effect could have been achieved by simply having a naive protag unless they were leaning on the "cheat skill" meme, which is bad in its own right. Again, this could be done without isekai nonsense by the protag simply finding a magical item or having some blessing from a god or whatever.
>why the spergery over it?
My Wife Has No Emotion has better story beats. It feels less contrived to me than TFA. TFA has a lack of subtly in its story that's off-putting for me. Compared to Sugiura's other work, it feels very mid.

The Apothecary Will Make This Battered Elf Happy, isn't the deepest story, but it was less clumsy than TFA for me.

I know
>obscure elf abuse stories with similar premises confuse the sperg
I won't say I'm frustrated, more perplexed by certain narrative choices made. I'd like to message Sugiura and pick their brain on the matter.
> Were you influenced by The Apothecary Will Make This Battered Elf Happy?
>Why did you make TFA an isekai?
>Did you just need an excuse to give the protag a cheat power?
I'd probably ask them a few other questions about MWHNE while I was at it. He doesn't accept direct messages, though. It's probably for the best. Something might get lost in translation.

Depends. It wasn't clumsy until Giba lost his nerve and decided to speedrun the ending. I'm actually hoping the current manga adaptation will deviate from that point and let Reszurre use her kickass magitech limbs and have a short period of adapting to having real independence again before moving onto the elf village climax (and fleshing that out as well.)

I just wish the motherfucker would find more self-confidence, guy's got some legit art chops but he thinks he's hopeless garbage and begged off the manga adaptation to another guy. It's also hilarious that his current stuff is so marriage-focused that he's been legit tapped by a marriage consultation company to co-host an event and speak

God, I remember doing a censored college version of this manga several times with the girl getting raped in canon.
One of the mods must have really hated me for doing that, because he tried to ban me several times. Blame the author, not me, dude. lmao

I haven't been keeping up with the manga adaptation. I'll need to check in on it.

If you're talking about the prequel, it's essentially a hentai doujin. I stumbled into a reddit thread while tracking it down, and of course, they couldn't deal with it. I can understand if you're going at it with the anti-cuckhold angle, "I don't want used goods". They were just mad that the artist depicted sexual abuse. No surprise there.

I wouldn't mind more happy moments that aren't just romantic, I liked seeing her have strong relationships with people that aren't just the apothecary, seeing how being closed off is what led to the state of the elves in the first place.

The original doujin had a lot of kino in it. Nice and wholesome.

>they can pay 800K to buy their freedom and come a citizen
>Slave girl fucks MC for one night and earns TWO MILLION but stays as his slave because it's easy money
How the fuck are slaves even a thing in this world? Anyone can become a millionaire in a day.

Do you realise that it's literally copied from Rome and that in mid-late Roman Empire the politician class was overwhelmingly comprised of slave? Roman citizens had no motivation to learn writing, meanwhile slaves running the estates had to learn reading and writing. The Roman bureaucracy demanded literacy, and because freedmen were the most literate class in Rome, they eventually took over the bureaucracy. The emperors were glorified generals while the administrative power was wielded by former slaves.

It's not "copied from Rome" when you have numbers based "feelings" instantly appearing on a magical legal document. This bitch still can't read btw.

I honestly think My Wife Has No Emotion have really fallen off as the stories goes on, the newer chapters tend to lack the melancholy and lonely of the earlier chapter or bloated with characters or plot that nobody give a shit about.
I remember that the author would like to turn story into the protagonists defeating the evil company.
It's frustrated me that the author can't just focus on the daily live of the protagonist and had to insert unnecessary plot that doesn't matter in a SoL stories.

Arguably it suffers from the Watamote syndrome of a tonal shift around the time the egg bot child is introduced. Unlike Watamote however, where it turns into more of a school girl SOL from a loner cringe compilation story, MWHNE still has the same weird flavor for me that I enjoy. I don't like all the story beats that are introduced, but I still enjoy the story overall. The same cannot be said for Watamote, which I feel has completely lost the original soul it had.

My biggest gripe is that TFA is sucking up attention from MWHNE development. I want to support the author but TFA really blows dicks clean out of its own asshole compared to MWHNE.

>that manga pic
you know, there's something really off putting about it and i'm not talking about what happened to the elf itself. but more so on a meta level. like this author is so blatantly and intentionally piling on the most fucked up shit possible in an effort to garner sympathy from the the audience and set up the inevitable healing process or recovery or whatever that manga is trying to do. it feels fake and forced and slimy. there's no set up for why she got fucked up so bad. no justification. it just is. kinda reminds me of those animal healing videos where the creator is the one who actually abused the animal in the first place to farm likes and subs and views. it's disgusting.

Again, it's (I won't say rip-off) very heavily inspired, I think, from The Apothecary Will Make This Battered Elf Happy. It shares a similar premise, but the execution is very clumsy. At least for me.

The narrative reason (prepare for your eyes to roll out of their sockets) is that they're pure magical beings, so you harvest bits and pieces of them. A very fucked up story for sure. Despite the harsh context, you have this slapstick bullshit in the background and other nonsensical elements that make the work a real head-scratcher. I think Sugiura is out of their element writing this. Perhaps it would "feel" better if they were doing the art as well. Like, in their mind, there's maybe an awkward tone that the artist isn't picking up on from their writing. Whatever the case, they seem to keep heaping praise on the work even if they feel that way. Fair play. Don't want to torpedo your own shit even if it isn't your exact vision. Especially in a collaboration.

If this gets an anime adaptation, I'll be more surprised by that than I was with Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time.

You would think, this being an isekai. An outside perspective would have you yelling at the slave seller
>"What the fuck is wrong with you?"
This isn't the first anime to portray harsh racial divides between similar human-like characters. Skeleton Knight plays with a similar theme. The difference is, the practice isn't in the open with the way TFA portrays this, it's like a Dollar General slave market where you can just saunter in and find partially mutilated elves because "that's just the way it is."

Well there's still some good stories in it like the girl with the outdated robot that was a give from her deceased father, but the two main protagonist isn't much of the focus anymore and character like robot egg and the annoying robot brat is taking all the focus in the newer chapter, which i couldn't care less about.
The foreshadowing in the background about the robot company being sketchy is also unnecessary in my opinion and fells like the author just trying to force an unnecessary plot that wouldn't work well in the story and could overshadow the SoL part completely.
