How the fuck do modern detective anime fail to do what Conan has been doing for over 30+ years??
Seriously, go watch any episodic detective anime, and you'll see that they can't get a single crime right, let an overarching plot
And it's not like Conan was all dark and seinen, it had comedy, well-developed characters, darama, and no two cases felt the same. Not to mention, it could get fucked up with its gore despite it being aimed at teenagers

>Aoyama was talented in drawing even at an early age. In elementary school, his painting of "Yukiai War" won a competition and was displayed at the Tottori Daimaru Department Store. He has an older brother who is a scientist and helps him out with the "gimmicks" in Case Closed. He has another brother who is a doctor.
The author is surrounded by intelligent sounding boards.
Most mangaka are intellectually stunted from drawing 24/7 otherwise.

Isn't it because Conan's format of being a case of the week is very different from basically any other anime trying

I agree it has comedy and drama, but I think the fundamental aspects regarding stuff like its character development, story and mystery quality over the past decade have actually been getting weaker and weaker.

Kindaichi was the better detective manga despite the occasional barely passable art. Its writing leans more towards classic Japanese mystery stories and you can tell that the creators were fans of Edogawa Rampo. It has plenty of melodrama and tragedy that might be polarizing, but to me the writing style makes the characters a lot more human than Conan's.
