And that's it for today
And that's it for Wolfsmund

The Habsburgs would come to rule most of Europe and the Americas, but Switzerland would indeed stay unconquered all the way until Napoleon came around and FUCKED everything up

Did you like it? Did Wolfram do anything wrong?
I quite enjoyed it. It was a very brutal manga, almost to a comical level during the first part with Wolfram, but I liked it nonetheless. It was pretty historically accurate and it's clear the mangaka did her research when it came to actual events and European warfare so I have to give props to that. Maybe I would have preferred if the entire struggle for the HRE throne was expanded a bit on since I am an Austriaboo and hisotryfag, but that isn't really the plot to the manga or that relevant to Swiss history, so it's not an objective critique in any way. It was a good manga and a worthwhile read
Wolfram was just following orders....

Next time: funny faces and stinky gajin- Asobi Asobase (132 chapters). I was a huge fan of the anime, but I never read the manga, so we'll see how it goes. It's gonna be another long one after quite some time actually

Thank you for reading

I enjoyed it. Earlier on I thought it would be more of an anthology series with every chapter focusing on different people trying to pass through Wolfsmund, with maybe some light plot culminating in Wolfram's death at the very end, but I enjoyed what it became

Thx mate.
I wanted to read it for a long time so I'm glad I finally do so.
It was a fine historical manga. I liked the Wolfram parts the most. The anthology-like structure along was a favorite of mine and I loved how gritty it was. I was disappointed with the shift to the revolution, and I still am. It wasn't as exciting as the first part. And it felt more mundane and less brutal as a whole. I would have liked if that part was given its own manga while the first part was explored more. The art was top notch. I do think the author making a lot of the men look feminine was funny though.
Excited for Asobi Asobase. Enjoyed the anime so I hope the manga is good.

>The era where knights and nobility controlled the battlefield was over
This did begin around this time, but it wouldn't really end until the 1800's. Kings and nobility would lead armies until the 19th century. Napoleon is widely regarded as the last great general-ruler for a reason. After him, armies got so large and military schools got so good that kings were better off leaving leading to professionals. Plus, governments were secure enough that you didn't need to be a great leader to stay in power. When Wellington beat Napoleon at Waterloo, there was no way he could turn that into taking the throne
>>280821168
>>280821491
Churchill has a quote about this. A perfect example is the Franco-Prussian war. The war waged by the Second French Empire and the one waged by the Third Republic were fundamentally different. The Empire fought a war over honor with field armies. It was conventional and saw lots of decorum. The Republic fought a desperate struggle that painted the Germans as hated enemies of the French people and encouraged guerilla resistance. The Empire would never have dug in around Paris after the army surrendered at Sedan, the Republic was ready to hold as long as it took to raise as many armies as needed. Democratic wars tend to be far longer and more total than authoritarian wars, and democracies almost always win. There's a reason the armies of the First French Republic were the largest in Europe since the fall of Rome. No other society was able to galvanize all the people to fight, no other was willing to commit to massive and civilizational struggle. Napoleon lost in the end because he switched back to a dictators war and met the allies on equal footing.

History shows that when a democracy borders a non-democracy, the democracy will start the war and win. I say this all as a firm believer in democracy. This is a good thing, I am a Jacobin.

Thanks OP.
The plot structure of this manga was very interesting, spending the majority of the first half to establish a villain who wasn't even relevant in the climax. It's like the author got caught up in taking "show, don't tell" to an illogical extreme. That said, I really appreciated the constant maps during the battles. The author has a good eye for spatial detail.
Overall, I enjoyed it a lot more once I started approaching it as a comedy.

I think putting the link to the previous chapter at the end of this one is stupid.
If I want to look for it I shouldn't have to scroll through the whole thread, potentially getting spoiled, baka OP.

thanks, OP. I liked it, the Swiss uprising is a good mirror to events like Flemish Revolt(s), the Jacquerie, the Ciompi, and the later Hussite Wars about how medieval society was greatly nuanced and very particular about obtaining and defending rights, something that greatly paved the way towards western humanism and individualism.
Wolfram was fun to hate and root for at times, just because of how silly he could be at times. I'm not sure if there could've been anything to add to his story, as his death and the resulting battle with the Habsburgs was quite necessary to drive the plot, but I feel there might've been more about it
As a fellow Habsburgaboo, I can understand the pain. Berthold was /ourรผgler/; Kuji did a great job at making knights into the killing machines they're supposed to be

It was alright, I guess. The historical aspect was nice. But, as a story, it was kinda all over the place. I still don't know if I was meant to take it seriously or not. The last few chapters were pretty serious, but everything with Wolfram was so silly

The Swiss mercenaries would remain some of the most popular men at arms until the middle of 19th century, where the cantons would form a federal state after a short civil war regarding how their society would function in the modern age.
After Leopold I, the confederate mountain folk would wage war against the burgundians and their habsburgian allies, killing his nephew Leopold III on the battlefield and showing that the Swiss could fight in more open terrain, and it would culminate in the Swabian War (the Swabians and Austrians would call it the Swiss War, of course), where Maximilian I, emperor of the holy roman empire, sent over 12.000 mercenaries to force the Old Swiss Confederacy to pay the common penny, losing the entire army there and deciding that from now on, never shall the Habsburg ever deal with the Swiss ever again.

I liked it, historical media isn't usually my thing but this definitely made it good. I'm normally wary of grimdark settings since they usually just turn into misery porn where the plot bends over itself to torture the morally good characters. But Wolfsmund stayed true to an important rule, which is to make life shitty for everyone involved, protagonists and antagonists included. Walter might've lost everything and died, but he still managed to give Wolfram a stake up the ass and Leopold a humiliation he'll never recover from. Which is a satisfying enough end for me.

In this story, most likely, yes, since handgons and ninja training takes lots of money.
In real history, no, Luwig of Bavaria just pissed in the flakes of Frederick the Fair by declaring that the mountain peasant confederates don't need to pay taxes to the Habsburgian, hoping that his habsburgian rival would be too occupied dealing with the annoyance. There were no financial or military support between the confederates and Ludwig, nor would they really be able to do that even if they wanted, since the territory around the forest countains was in the hands of the habsburg. They simply had a mutual enemy.

Mistress. If you think about it logically, the rebellion and the siege in particular were successful solely because of her being amazing at fucking and sucking.
