I was initially disappointed in this fact but after watching the trailers and reading the manga I think it will give Alice an opportunity to develop in a different way than her book counterpart. She’s really likable in the web manga. Way more genki than her novel counterpart and I’ve fallen in love. The manga basically confirms this Wonderland (and presumably Alice) is in a VR headset. Part of me hopes that this film is successful enough to spawn a TV anime where each episode someone gets yeeted into Wonderland via the headset with Alice serving as the main anchor / character development tool for that person like what they’re doing in this film, and would also give them an opportunity to explore areas of the novel not visited in the film. Also it seems she gets a chance to save the heroine from the trial based on the trailer, so we get to see a courageous side to her.

I hope the cute visuals and Wonderland premise (along with the nips’ general love for Alice stuff) cause bunch of little girls go to see it and it winds up a success… in spite of them making the main character an OL. Not necessarily a bad thing but not sure that helps with getting the kids in seats. “Girl’s first isekai” would be a good marketing angle. Should have gone the Precure route and made Rise a JC. Young enough to still be relatable but old enough to be a role model. On another note, the initial preview screening in Tokyo yesterday seems to have gotten positive reception. Hoping it’s well received by a broader audience upon its official release

Alice sure likes taking the initiative to hold Rise’s hand and giving her hugs from the trailers (and the handholding is featured multiple times on the main website’s home page). But she’s a loli and doesn’t know any better, so it’s fine… right?

Yeah, it’s a shame. Typically don’t follow movies and have zero idea how long these roadshows last, but whatever it takes for them to be successful and make a sequel TV anime, I’ve wanted a concept like this for awhile. Can’t go to Japan due to money and health reasons to see it either. At least there’s the web manga and the novel adaptation.
