What pieces of classical literature deserve a manga / anime adaptation?

I could see it work as a movie or short manga adaptation under a creator willing to take generous liberties with the presentation, focusing instead on the different animated/comic medium rather than adapting the literature concept like-for-like. It has the right, light-hearted tone for one, and since it already has a whole section about Japanese erotica an anime/manga adaptation is the logical next step.

Unironically yes, im only a /lit/ casual, so I don’t know much esoteric and obscure stuff but the Iliad and the odyssey would both be incredible anime, even Plato’s republic could make a great 1 season anime.
