Now that the dust has settled, was it really that big of an asspull?

It was an asspull, but the entertaining kind. Alluka is GOD FUCKING AWFUL. Literally almost ruins the series. Kite revival is second but nowhere close to as bad as Alluka.
Kite revival and Hisoka survival you can sweep away a little with “nen bullshit”, but NANIKA IS SHIT.
Seriously, what was Togashi thinking? Did he seriously go “wait, I don’t actually want Gon to die, Asspull go!”
>but but themes of family and love, Killua can make wishes because he treats Alluka with kindness
I don’t give a fuck, it’s still shit. Just because fairy tails writings has themes of friendship and family doesn’t mean it’s good, and neither is Nanika.

One piece and Hunter are two sides of the same coin when you think about it.

For some odd reason Togashi has always gotten a pass for asspulls. I love his series , hell, the fact that I like them despite the asspulls is a testament to his capabilities.
But there was horrible asspulls in YYH and horrible asspulls in Hunter. I don’t care if you think FMA, steins gate, etc have worse overall writing than Hunter. They never had asspulls as bad as peak Togashi asspulls.
And you can’t even meme it like you can with Araki because you can tell Togashi takes himself more seriously.

No it wasn't. Nen gets stronger after death. One of the points of Nen is how easy it is to game the system if you've got the talent. This is something a lot of shonentards can't seem to grasp because they need strict power scaling due to crippling autism.
Another thing these barely-functional manchildren can't comprehend is the difference between asspulls and plot holes. That is to say, bad writing vs writing that doesn't make sense. I don't think that the Nen defibrillator was introduced properly, but it adheres to the series' internal logic. That automatically disqualifies it from being an asspull.
All of this is lost on the retards here though. They have little capacity for nuanced thought while simultaneously being incapable of even sticking to a definition. See for example how new zoomerisms will pop up on a Monday, and the meaning will have changed into something all-encompassing by Friday. It's all rather unfortunate.

He cut his losses at best.
>Kill Gon
>Gon arc has a bitter ending for no good reason
>Killua gives in to his family plight and has no purpose anymore (Nanika doesn't exists)

The problem is the transition to the SW arc after that low point... how can Gin/Leorio/Kurapika move the plot forward if Gon just died.

It also invalidates the Election arc

What shoudlve happened is the election arc shoudlve went on without the Killua part. The Killua part gets changed to Killua having to go to the DC, maybe with Alluka, to find something to save Gon. It would give extra weight to Illumi being on the boat .
My biggest problem with Nanika and Killua is that the lack of real struggle for Killua to use some immense power. If Killua went to the DC and came back with Nanika, I wouldn’t give a shit if she was a genie. Because he actually struggled to save his near death friend.

But that wouldn’t happen because then Togashi would die before Gon meets Ging and then he can’t use the “we already got the ending” when he spends 150 chapters on the succession war

No. Gon was put near death to introduce Nanika, not the other way around. Togashi could have easily written it so that only a Nen exorcist is needed to save him (with the caveat that he still gave up his Nen).

What you wrote sounds like generic slop.

>dude, the fast-paced 1 volume part political satire part family drama should have been some drawn out shonenshit arc to acquire a macguffin to save his friend

Killua already struggled throughout the story and that's what led to his remembering Alluka at all. And even after saving Gon, their relationship was irreparably damaged and they moved on.

Nanika asspullery can still be saved if we ever get to the dark continent and get more information on AIs and how the zoldcyks got an AI in the first place. If not it’s a stain on the series but isn’t the end of the world.

This. And Nanika was introduced to show the calamitous (and miraculous) effects of things from the Dark Continent. Nanika is an AI, one of the Five Threats that could bring humanity to extinction. This is what humanity's up against, and also what humanity stands to gain from venturing out there.

And five among uncountable others, and these were just near the coast. The Dark Continent is cosmic horror, and I really want to see the craziest things there, but mangaka already have short lifespans, and Togashi isn't exactly known for his health.

I would assume that it's related to Zigg Zoldyck, who accompanied Isaac Netero on a DC expedition.

I also thought this.
>more or less every human expedition to the dark continent brings back an extinction level threat
>a Zoldyck is known to have gone on one
>now one of his descendants is possessed by a known dark continent entity

It's nothing compared to Alluka healing Gon
Just got memed more because of the funny translation and the ongoing war between Chrollofags and Hisokafags
