I can't really say what, but ishiguro stories just hit differently for me... it just activates my autism and emotional side, it presses my buttons. Try to reread it and see if it improves your experience. Coming back to it and realizing a connection to something else earlier/later on is rewarding and exciting.
I'm really eager to see what Ishiguro is planning for the ending, but I'm happy to wait as long as he needs to tell his story.
