You might be. Is this your first Tomino series? The man has an esoteric storytelling style.

The director wrote a fantasy futa novel. What did you expect

Tomino tends to go off the deep-end and his storytelling style is very unhinged and hard to follow at times.

Yeah, that's G-Reco. Don't worry, it's not you.
>I've never seen Gundam before
God damn. What made you decide to start here?

It looks beautiful and it's standalone, it was one of the few that intrigued me
The other one was Turn A but I hear you need to see every other Gundam before it

G Reco isn't quite standalone, but it's so divorced from the rest of Universal Century era shows that it functions well enough as a stand alone. Turn A is actually really similar in that regard, it just has connections to multiple non-UC shows and it's a superior viewing experience if you have seen them.

Overman King Gainer has the same artstyle and is probably more coherent - directed by Tomino as well.
>but I hear you need to see every other Gundam before it
Yes and no? You really just need to have an idea of Gundam; watch any shows that came before it that interest you (0079, Zeta, ZZ, CCA, 0080, F91, 0083, Victory, G, Wing, 08th, X) and then watch it I suppose would be my suggestion, but don't force yourself to watch stuff you don't want to to watch Turn A - it's not that kind of thing.

Turn A is technically not standalone but on the other hand it's disconnected from the rest of Gundam in a way that you really, really don't need to watch anything before it.

There's a cool plot point in the later half that benefits from watching at least all previous Tomino Gundam anime but it's not a "What the fuck is going on?" kind of reveal if you're going in blind.

Victory, Turn A and G-Reco are all three Tomino Gundams that kind of orbit around earlier UC Gundam but are completely fine as standalones.

It's wannabe deep garbage. I dropped it on second episode because I didn't like it and got the impression it was all bullshit then checked the plot later with anons who kept watching and my impression that they were just trying to turn a nothingburger into a 3d5u complex story by use of bad exposition solidified.

You could have started gundam literally anywhere else and you picked the show where the creator started falling into dementia.

No. The franchise as a whole is pretty bad. There are standout series in there but you're better off ignoring almost everything.

Nah, franchises are worth getting into because every installment builds upon the past ones and its tropes so even the more mediocre ones become fun to watch after a while. Also since they all focus on different things they reflect what their creator appreciates in gundam.
Take SEED for instance it has a mediocre story with mediocre characters but has any gundam show surpassed its kino levels when Kira comes back to save his friends with TM Revolution in the background? I don't think so. It's well worth getting through 25 episodes of sloppy drama between monstruous blobs with big watery eyes and flawless launch sequences just to get to this point.

The movie version is paced better and has the same runtime length of the TV series so you won't miss out on anything.

I still really like the TV version because I'm pretty comfortable with how Tomino directs his shows. If you want to get into it, go watch shows directed by him. Turn A Gundam is similar in style but much more muted and slow.

That's not even the best "moment with a TM Revolution song" in Gundam.
The best bit in Gundam is probably either the end of the first episode or the nuke episode fron Turn A, or the ending of Victory.

Turn A is more enjoyable if you've seen at least a few previous series (in production terms).

If you want a stupid goofy fun time, watch G Gundam

Yes, but it's ok most people get filtered by it and it's a flawed series

You need to keep track of the dynamics between the various factions and infer the worldbuilding
