Romance + photography was a combo I didn’t think would ever hit me so damn hard. Waiting for this author to come out with a new work is agonizing. I’m addicted to her love stories.

It's been a while since I read this so I may be mistaken, but isn't photography just some minuscule thing that barely appears? It's not like a manga about making manga, painting, rakugo, drum making, etc. It's just a quirk one of the character has and that's it.
And the writing? I mean, sure, it's realistic, but from the moment they confess to each other and start dating, basically nothing happens. She has some health issues, some clash with their parents, and that's it.
They just stay the same even even after realizing one or two things about themselves. Why would anyone overrate some low stakes coming of age manga that ends predictably, and praise it as if their heart strings were touched by this... is beyond me.

Ignoring or hiding her health issues, which is resolved with a good ending is not exactly gramatic or sad or anything.
It's just life, and not a particularly sad or depressive one.

>isn't photography just some minuscule thing that barely appears?
It’s like 40% of the manga.
>It's not like a manga about making manga, painting, rakugo, drum making, etc. It's just a quirk one of the character has and that's it
It’s not really a quirk. The story does dive into some details about astrophotography that shows the author has done her research but it’s not a complete how to guide. Almost all the big trips and excursions in the story revolve around photography. I think you might benefit from a reread.
>but from the moment they confess to each other and start dating, basically nothing happens
This is false, the plot focuses how they navigate being a couple with one of the person having an “illness”. One of the major conflicts between them was Isaki didn’t want to be treated like glass but the more Ganta learned about her, the more he started to be more like her parents because of his worries and love for her, which made him go against the reasons she fell for him in the first place. There’s a couple more elements that drives the story forward past the confession but that’s one of the main ones.
>She has some health issues, some clash with their parents, and that's it.
They don’t clash with their parents after the confession, Isaki’s relationship with her parents improved. Ganta only had issues with his mom which his dad helped reassure him later on. A lot of the focus is putting them into situations that highlights how stressful it can be being a couple with someone who has a condition like Isaki.
>They just stay the same even even after realizing one or two things about themselves
Not really. They had growth, particularly near the end. They certainly aren’t the same people at the beginning of the manga.
>praise it as if their heart strings were touched by this... is beyond me.
I don’t know about others, I like it mainly due to how it handles its themes and romance.

I think Insomnia was her most important work and Fujiyama is certainly her most energetic and dynamic story, but I also think Chion is the story that is the most calming and shows her SoL writing and mellow scene settings the best. Also helps that it has one of my favorite tsunderes in manga.

The proportions of her characters are very soft, which fits the gentle tone of her stories. Smooth chins, more filled out cheeks, round noses, wider eyes for some characters. It’s a nice mix between realistic proportions and moe features. Don’t get me started on the cats because she draws them like she lives with 50 of them.

Well you’re right about the woman part and since you thought it might’ve been NTR, I’ll say I’m sorry for the NTR garbage you went through reading female mangakas’ works. You don’t have to worry about NTR with this one, first guy’s a troll the second one is that the ending wasn’t bad but kinda underwhelming which means it’s bad by /a/‘s standards. I personally found it just fine, the writing was fine but just didn’t have the spark of the other chapters before it, but the author wrapped up everything up well enough. I’d say it’s the type of ending that would’ve benefited from having an extra chapter or two before it.

I think it could be that Ojiro was just not used to writing longer stories. If you look at Fujiyama and Chion-san, they’re quite shorter than Insomnia. I don’t think the last 40 chapters were rushed in particular, but you really only notice the burnout when the timeskip to their last year happened, second to last volume I think. Ojiro just seemed like she wanted to get them out of high school as fast as she could. The main goal was to do that since a lot of the volumes before was deciding what they wanted to do once they graduated. But then the final arc with the drama just didn’t really have enough breathing room for it to feel all that satisfying, so you get the sense Ojiro wasn’t setting that gentle pace she used with all her other chapters pre volume 11.
