I don't know if the best yuri is better than the best straight romance, but I think that the average yuri is far better than the average seinen/shounen romance for a good number of reasons.

>Character Archtypes
Most MCs are shallow, but male MCs are shallow in usually in same three ways. Either they are a sort of meek, polite guy; a cynical, edgy guy; or a perverted, comedic MC. In contrast, there are dozens of shallow female archtypes to draw upon for yuri.

>Development Speed
Unless a series is a hyper-ecchi from the beginning, modern heterosexual romance published for guys is slow. It easily takes most series 100+ chapters just for the characters to kiss. Yuri reaches a happier middle ground of 2-4 volumes.

>Culture of Threads
It feels the threads for every moderately popular heterosexual romance series become shitfets where it's constant waifuwars or overreacting. Feels like people in yuri romance actually want to talk about the series in question without 7 layers of irony.
