Are shimapan still a popular thing in Japan? I feel like most panties for a while have just been plain or had some other pattern with a few outliers that could've just come from randomly picking a pattern or legacy characters.

It's a design that has lost popularity. The most recent anime in that picture (No Game No Life) originally came out in 2014, the other series are older. There are a lot of anime series of 2015-2025 where panties are visible but for the most part, the designs are different nowadays, take a look at Kandagawa Jet Girls, Aokana -Four Rhythm Across the Blue- and The Shiunji Family Children, none of the girls in those series wear striped panties as far as I know. So, they aren's as popular as they used to be, they were a popular design in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Monogatari wasn't censored at all. The dialogue is nearly all completely lifted from the novels. There is a long discussion about Kanbaru's spats and they are part of her character. Not only this, but the bandaid scene was something anime original, so it was more uncensored than the source. In addition to this, Monogatari is still uncensored to this very day. Including nice new stuff like loli topless bloomer scenes. This is why it is important to watch more anime, to see what you are missing. You seem obsessed with shonen (cartoons for little boys) which is why you feel everything is censored.
