it's not particularly hard, but you'd do yourself a favor by just learning some basic japanese like hiragana, katakana, some kanji, and basic grammer (basically 60 first chapters of tae kim). it'll take you like a couple of days and be insanely helpful

I try to keep any eye on ComicWalker for new things that seem fun, but nothing's really stood out to me that hasn't been picked up, but I've got a decent stack of completed but dropped I'd been wanting to ship around to other groups like Oshikake Gyaru Nakamura-san and Documentary of an Ex-Girlfriend Complex because I don't want to solo them.

>Hmm, panelcleaner sounds interesting, I'd rather manually do the translation and typeset part but I hate cleaning with a passion.
almost nobody uses panel cleaner for cleaning anon, they use the ocr to capture the Japanese text for translation
I don't particularly like using it for cleaning myself because I don't think the result is good enough, and cleaning the bubbles takes like ten minutes a chapter top

>I try to keep any eye on ComicWalker for new things that seem fun
Comic Walker only has kadokawa stuff so you're not going to get an awful lot of stuff to pick up there.
It's probably better to check some of the more unknown web readers, most of the big publishers stuff like shueisha and kodansha are already translated, but the smaller ones have more that's not being translated
houbunsha is probably one of the bigger publishers that have nearly none of their series translated, but they're mostly 4komas

There are sites where it has to descramble images and where it can pull original JPG directly. For example, Comic Days and Sunday Webry always resulted in direct JPG rips. But recently it started ripping in PNG from the sites that produced direct rips, meaning it has to descramble images now. I thought something must have changed on the JP side of things, but no, some random series (from the same site) are still ripped in JPG proper. If something has changed in the viewer, then it wouldn't result in such discrepancy. So I'm at loss here.

We did chapter 8 and 9 together, I cleaned and redrawed and he translated and typesetted.
I've cleaned and redrawn chapter 10 and 11, so if you want to pick it up that'd be great. I can continue cleaning and redrawing for future chapters as well.

Gatekeeping is one of the biggest signs of being a retard.
And to be honest it's probably garbage anyway. If it was good, people would most likely know about it already.
It's very rarely that something good actually goes untranslated. It's Sturgeon's law. 90 percent of manga is garbage, and about 10 percent of manga get translated. So most likely those 10 percent translated are most likely those in the 10 percent that are not garbage.
Of course there are some hidden gems once in a while, often on some obscure web reader no one knows about, but it's not often. You can be pretty certain that someone works on good stuff from the bigger publishers.

I started reading the Ruri no Houseki manga because the anime sounded cool and I'd prefer to start with the source for most things. I'm also reading GuP Motto Rabu Rabu Sakusen Desu and Kenrantaru Grande Scene monthly. I think the GuP manga did start getting translations again but for a while it wasn't. Also reading Saihate no Solte and the new manga by the Yugami-kun mangaka, Mondai Darake no Mahoustukai.

And Jashin-chan Dropkick and Hell Teacher Nube both have translations but some of it is MTL and I figured it would be better to just read those in Japanese. I have been reading more and more stuff in Japanese since deciding to learn, as it takes the guesswork and issues out that come with the translation scene. But I don't want to pay for everything, and for some manga there really aren't good available, free raws. Those sites that upload to nyaa often put watermarks everywhere and the quality can be not very good too.

I'm also reading the Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan LN since I wanted to know what kinds of things it did outside of what was adapted for the anime.

>So most likely those 10 percent translated are most likely those in the 10 percent that are not garbage.
Now you're just trolling.
Bottom of the barrel trash gets translated because that's what the masses want. The good stuff is too complicated for the "translators" anyway and they never hear of it since they don't read magazines for themselves. Only once something gains attention by an adaption or similar will they suddenly jump on it and rush to release translations.
The only people complaining about gatekeeping are those being kept outside.

I don't agree necessarily with that extreme level of gatekeeping that anon is talking about (though I do recognize how the quality of discussion often falls of a cliff once something gets too popular) but I do agree that just because something isn't popular or well known doesn't mean it's bad. I've read plenty of manga that haven't been translated that I've loved. There's more that goes into it than just "not popular enough for translation or an anime = bad". And you can look at the opposite case to see this as well, where absolute garbage gets translations and anime adaptations.

This same kind of thinking is does by the same people who build their entire taste around what curated charts say, and they never actually find their own taste in things.

And considering I mostly pick up new stuff, your last argument is pretty much void.

You're one person. And I'm including official translations. You can look at the front page of Mangadex or every time Seven Seas announces new manga they got to see that quality is in no way an indicator of what gets translated. People on here also complain every season about the garbage that gets adapted. Plus, you enjoying something doesn't mean it's good either, and that's in general. And there are plenty of scanlators that translate stuff that people want to read (ie isekai) instead of what they themselves like.

There's also nowhere near enough series that get translated, even by scanlators and official companies combined, to be able to say that everything good gets translated, especially when there is a leaning at times into things that most people would consider bad. It's the same retarded way of thinking as people who say that the arbitrary amount of content that gets adapted from a manga or LN is the only good part of it.

>thousands of manga
>some small percent of it gets translated
>by some amazing coincidence, that just so happens to include every good manga
>an anime adaptation of something that was not translated before comes out and ends up getting super popular with people loving it (take Ruri no Houseki from this season)
>all of a sudden that manga was actually good despite not fitting the criteria for being good before

Again, the issue is not that Hakuneko now downloads only bloated descrambled PNGs for me, although it still is an issue because different (if not all) Japanese web manga platforms I've been ripping raws from changing something at exactly the same time makes me think it's something on my side. It's inconsistency.

I read it anyway and now it's my favourite manga of all time.
Letter communication is overrated, feel free to ignore this.

Itโ€™s in a weird position of being what seems to be a quasi-sequel of the authorโ€™s independent work. Which hasnโ€™t been translated, though I believe someone is working on it.

Is there some process through which manga can become untranslated again?
Tracking down translators and forcing them to take down their bootlegs isn't enough since copies can still exist somewhere.

In some cases the translations aren't available anymore. I don't think that's what that anon is talking about though. For instance with Spriggan, while I think it's fully translated now, at one point the only translations were Viz's (which was incomplete and skipped around a lot of chapters) and a company in Singapore that went out of business at one point and there didn't seem to be any scans of it. So despite being fully translated in English for a while, it wasn't until recently with the new translation that you could read Spriggan in English unless you had bought the volumes in Singapore when they came out.

Been reading manga in nip for so long I don't even know if something is getting translated unless I see anons posting it. Checked a few for this thread and most have had someone at least attempt to translate them at one point.

I'd like that as well. I'm curious how well the manga is actually doing. Volumes 1 and 2 were both announced to be released at the same time, as I understand. I'm not sure if that's a Cycomi thing, or a bad sign. It's like like 13000 favorites on the site, I don't know if that's decent for 20 chapters or not.

The latest few chapters almost felt like it was rushing to an early end, but it could have been just for the end of a volume. The first girl might be the obvious one they were looking for, but maybe it's something different and it's actually all of them.
