>>280928021>this is so not the kind of anime I want to watch twice just to keep up with a nonexistent discussion, especially not on such a stacked SaturdayThe trick is to only watch it the day after the fixed subs come out. If the thread doesn't survive until Sunday, make a new one and bump it with a few screenshots and opinions. I'll be there.
>I wanted to compare it to HanaShura but then I remembered how much better HanaShura is than thisI really wanted to like HanaShura, but it was clearly a terrible adaptation.
I don't want to rant too much, but I have self-restraint, so here goes:
The VAs articulated most normal dialogue as if they were reciting, complete with unnatural pauses and announcer-like didactic affectation, so the actual recitations didn't contrast enough to stand out. Most scenes had no BGM, but didn't use the resulting dead air purposefully, for example, by using close-mic voice recording or extra detailed foley to establish intimacy or tension.
The main plot only really kicked off in episode 7, with a club trip to a performance that could have easily taken place in episode 2 or 3, where it would have served as a much more striking introduction to the art of recitation and Hana's confidence issues than what we got.
Most of the early hints about Hana's backstory were removed for no clear reason, which lessens the impact of Shura's performance and results in her barely playing any role in this arc, despite literally being the other half of the show's title. Similarly, Mizuki was introduced as a deuteragonist in episode 1 and then sidelined for the middle stretch but we were meant to believe Hana somehow formed a deep bond with her by the end even though they didn't interact much on screen between the premiere and the finale, which ended right before the climactic competition everything was building towards.
Yes, I'm mad.
