I like it a lot. The “very near future” sci-fi is something that should be explored more by the industry in general, I guess robo waifus are in this category now so it is a bit weird. It also gives a Ghibli feel but with sci-fi, a genre Ghibli avoids. Also cool that they didn’t made adults incompetent retards to make the kids look cooler. The parents and even the grandma are competent in the use of the AR technology even if the show focus on the kids. If my life went as I expected when I was 20 I would have watched it with my kids today but instead I’m posting on 4chan alone.

Chill show produced at the perfect time for it to get a decent number of episodes so it could properly tell its story. Unlike the more recent Iso Mitsuo work which could've been so much more if it wasn't rushed.

Is Dennou Coil peak craft? I dunno. I think personally the show's animation is pretty limited (it helps if you don't permanently burn bridges with your animation director and fire him mid run), the scene composition is above average for its time which makes it way better than today, and most of the show's real strength is in how good the 2d/3d mixed element composition is. Japan's integration of 3d into their 2d shows is either 'we don't care that it looks out of place' or if you're lucky 'we're deliberately using that out of place look to create uncanny feelings'. Count on two hands how many anime in the last 20 years are really interested in visually integrating 3d/2d into a holistic feeling composition. Dennou Coil is one of them.

I don't really know about that, but Mitsuo Iso is definitely one of the best animators when it comes to capturing movement, and this is basically his Masterpiece.
He also did an episode of Rah Xephon and of course is famous for the Asuka sequence in EoE.

In terms of animators I would still rate Norio Matsumoto higher as he was incredible both at naturalistic movement and action, not that Iso can't do both but he mostly settled into the naturalistic side for much of his career as a key animator.

You can put him in pure webgen stuff like Birdy Decode and none of his cuts in that look like they don't belong there.
