Thanks to Shima's help and the fact she hadn't been using long, Chaco was able quit heroin and get clean. When she was released from the hospital, she told Shima that she and Robert were done and that she was also washing her hands of Vixen and in return Robert was giving her 2000 cases of wine from his personal collection. Later on, he and Kokubun went out to karaoke but Shima received a call from a panicked Chaco as Robert was in her apartment and on a rampage. The two of them took off to help her and were successful in ending the crisis. Once he'd calmed down, Robert lamented that his addiction had destroyed his career, his wife was divorcing him and Liu Yansheng had cheated him out of Vixen while claiming he owed money. Shima told him it'd be best if he left Shanghai but unfortunately for Robert, some of Liu's goons found him on the street and shot him, killing him.
Chaco had agreed to leave Shanghai to stay with some friends in London but was later told Shima (who'd learned it from Beniko) about Robert's murder. Yang Chunhua, Shima's secretary, overheard him talking about it and Liu and decided to reveal some things to Shima: mainly that Liu had previously cheated her family out of a sewing factory they'd owned, sending them into poverty and mentally scarring her father and as such she wouldn't rest until something was done about him. But Liu's underworld and government connections would make doing anything to him hard. Even worse, while Shima and Chunhua were investigating a store owned by Liu's lover, they were figured out and Chunhua wound up getting on the woman's bad side.
