I always wondered why a character called “mob” was literally the opposite of a mob. “Mob” is a slang term referring to a character archetype of a faceless nobody, a background character with no narrative relevance, villager A in a JRPG or a random NPC so unimportant they don’t even get face art. It does NOT refer to a psychic super-god of sublime wisdom and heroism and the center of all attention. The only thing I can think of is that ONE was going for a visual gag, ie, Mob looks like what a mob would look like.

He's not though, he's just some kid who happens to have psychic powers. The story itself plays it straight, but it's pretty straightforward about being a coming-of-age /sig/ type of thing where you're meant to see the psychic powers as a metaphor and focus on the MC's development as a person.

The problem with that is that one of the main things about her was that she wasn't really impressed by his powers once she got used to them.
