Alright, so here’s how Trion works, based on how the rules of the setting have been presented so far. Whether it’s considered canon or not, this is how the series explained it, or basically the way Ashihara presented it to us intentionally or not.

Trion works a lot like pre-programmed summoning magic. You use it to materialize different forms of matter, such as Trion Clothes, Trion Walls, Trion Armor for the Trion Soldiers, and more. This materialized energy is what we can call Layer-1 Trion.

Then there’s Layer-2 Trion, which forms Trion Bodies. These bodies exist on what you could describe as a second layer of reality, almost like an overlay. Because they are made entirely of Layer-2 Trion, they are nearly impervious to attacks from physical matter or anything composed of Layer-1 Trion.

To actually damage a Trion Body, you need weapons made of Layer-2 Trion as well. That includes Trion Bullets and Trion Blades that are specifically configured for that purpose. This is also why Trion Bullets have speed, range, and power settings. In this context, "power" refers to the amount of Layer-2 Trion inside the bullet, which acts almost like antimatter when it comes into contact with a Trion Body. It still interacts with Layer-1 Trion normally and can damage it as well.

Trion Shields are yet another construct made of Trion, designed to absorb or block attacks from Layer-2 Trion weapons, though only for a limited time or under certain conditions.

The point isn't that a deadline forces you to become better.
The point is that a fail condition forces you to reevaluate your options.

Take Inukai's training if Wakamura had set a simple deadline like (I must gain x solo ranking points), then as that deadline gets closer, he has to begin to ask 'why have I not been making progress'.
From then, looking at his solo points it'd be clear that he is stagnating, which would lead to him having to question how much value he is actually getting out of the training.

That's not gonna turn him into someone as capable as Osamu, but it would have helped his own progression by forcing him to try different approaches when his current one isn't bearing fruit.
In his case, it would have basically done what Inukai wanted from his training.

The problem is, this world is overselling ambition to everyone. People see influencers, CEOs, celebs and everything of the sort displaying their lives for everyone to try and imitate, and eventually people realize that ain't happening. In my experience they can function and be happy, it comes down to effective solutions and expectations.
