Why? The scene was retarded, and written like some edgy atheist on twitter. God doesn't exist, but the soul does.

So who's the top head? Someone just as pretentious as using Hitler, I guess.

>God doesn't exist, but the soul does
in the context of the serious this is the culmination of all the angst and hopelessness thats present over the course of the series. just as some people find a reason to not give up and just die, theyre immediately hit with this gut punch. with the whole "souls who form strong connections in this life find each other in the next" pretty much being the closest thing to a positive in this shitty situation. i dont think having a super happy ending would have been a good thing for GANTZ but it turned out far less grimdark and edgy as it could have been given other shit that happened in the series

Yeah, and then it goes on to admit that souls exist but it can't understand how they work, and therefore it (in its hubris) simple disregards them as unimportant.

Talk about your unreliable narrator... and don't get me started on the whole "demonstration", which was pointless and nihilistic given that everybody in the room had "died" and been reconstructed, some of them multiple times, by the alien's technology that it gave to specific (untrustworthy) humans that *it* had selected...

It's like the author had no master plan at all and had just plain run out of ideas by the end.
