Rin-ne is Rumiko Takahashi's return to comedy after Inuyasha. Rin-ne is VIZ's localized title, presumably chosen to assist in pronunciation. The original title is 境界のRINNE (Kyokai/Kyoukai no Rinne) which means Rinne of the Boundary. While it is not a megahit like some of her other huge series, I highly recommend it to fans of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura though it is obviously different.

a blog post wondered if it's a play on 追い剥ぎ (oihagi) which refers to a highwayman/bandit, and then speculated that maybe this was supposed to be an autumn chapter that was delayed for some reason because hagi is one of the seven autumn herbs... but also it's on the july card in hanafuda decks...

Original title was 心霊エレベーター. エレベーター (erebeetaa) is a loanword from the English elevator. 心霊 they translated as occult, but it can also mean spirit or psychic. I guess they didn't go with spirit since 霊 is what Rin-ne uses for spirit.
