Why did Azumanga Daioh become so popular after the pandemic? Memes are an obvious answer, but how did these memes start to spread and be mass produced in the first place?

Can't say I know the patient zero for it's resurgence, but what I do know is that Azumanga Daioh's style of humor has actually become funnier than it was when it was first published. It is eerily prescient to the exact sense of humor of today's internet-addled viewership.

Discord gifs, that's how it became popular. Specifically the chiyo hair flapping like a bird and Osaka gifs. Also the haro everynyan scene which every redditor liked.

its funny because i remember trying to search for azumanga gifs there in 2018 and there were only 15 or so
now you search for osaka and you cant find gifs from real life osaka anymore

Discord is the bridge between the superior humans who the demons are afraid of and the normalfag hivemind.
4channers and other unique people form their little cliques on Discord and spread their memes amongst themselves, semi-normalfags enter their groups and start spreading it to other servers; until it eventually reaches the hivemind which then appropiates it.
It isn't X or Instafag spreading memes to the masses, it's Discord. This is why Loliconism and feet is becoming more and more normalized.

tiktok youtube shorts and discord/gifs, that’s the answer. And no, Azumanga Daioh did not “become popular”. No zoomer actually took the time to watch the show, and anyone who did shitposted about how slow and boring it was. Tiktok helped make the anime digestible by only showing clips and cutting down on the comedic pauses the anime is notorious for doing, and discord helped spread character awareness by spamming gifs of osaka and chiyo.
Azumanga daioh benefits from the tiktok/shorts format because 90% of the entire show is literally just a series of skits being tied together by a thin continuity

zoomers treat azumanga and its comedic bits the same way they do with shonen and its fight scenes
i hope no moe gets affected by that anymore.

are you really trying to say short snippets of observational humor and goofy puns are somehow a new and novel fucking form of comedy
