My headcanon is that he originally used them as a cue for readers to remember characters since it was monthly then it became a style choice he just ended up liking. He was giving emojis to everything

Did they never appear in the weekly series? It's not like Jojo's the only manga to do something similar though. Usually it's to let the reader know who's talking if it's not obvious. Or if characters are talking about someone to give the reader a visual.
