I remember going "heh" maybe twice when watching all of nichijou. Something about the deer fight scene was cute. Rest either went over my head or was lost in translation.

I honestly think the 20 year olds that work in anime writing aren't trained comedians or have any other experience under their belt beyond regurgitating mediocre anime themes.

To be fair, you have to have at least a room temperature IQ to understand CITY. The humor is somewhat surreal, and without a basic grasp of japanese trivia most of the jokes will go over a retarded viewer's head. There's also Nagumo's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Arawi-sensei's older works, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike CITY truly ARE retarded - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Wako's dinosaur onesies which itself is a cryptic reference to Jurrasic Park's message about humans playing god. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those braindead simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as KyoAni's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have complete CITY collection. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the oldfags' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they've been active on /a/ within 5 weeks of myself (preferably longer) beforehand.

Anyone could tell that is what Arawi was going for, but he is just bad at writing stories with characters that we should care about. There are still daily threads for Azumanga and Lucky Star, but no one gives a shit about Nichijou anymore. I wish Kyoto Animation would stop wasting time adapting the trash he pumps out.
