Yeah, although I stopped watching tv when I was 12.
Even before that, I had my sexual awakening and first lewd dreams thanks to Sailor Moon.
Considering what many of you guys are into, I really am grateful to it for giving me a life-long preference for beautiful women of decent character.
Something that nowadays can be regarded as one of the most bizarre and obscure fetishes.

As far as I recall, only Pokemon aired on our TV and only for a couple of years.
I was buying dvds from the local newspaper shop instead.

No?
>what the hell is this? where's my Senpai G?
>oh right, these are those anime cartoons from Japan I heard about
>pretty good, not cringe at all
>but the voice acting is just terrible
>if they're so awful at speaking English then why don't they just do the voices in their own language?
>oh, they do, but then the original audio got dubbed over by some guys?
>why would anyone watch it like this?
>ok Google, how do I watch anime with Japanese audio?
If you're burger and this wasn't your immediate thought process then I don't know what to tell you
Even if you grew up with the pokemon and yugioh cartoons and didn't yet know what an anime was, shouldn't it still have occured to you at some point that the voice acting was garbage?

Yeah, 4kids shows on Kids WB in 2001, to toonami around 2002-2005 & Adult Swim anime block from 2005-2009 it was pretty much always there with me growing up. I can't watch current Toonami cause it brings nothing to the table compared to watching seasonal anime online, also modern dubs are terrible on average especially if I watched it with subs prior and have a baseline to compare it to.

so anime died when it reached cable tv
which is true, nothing from the 2000s onwards has matched the artistic heights of what made anime a cultural institution from the 70s-90s

When I was very young I must have watched Spirited Away on tv, forgotten about it, and then dreamt about it years later. I rediscovered it when I was like thirteen and it was the most surreal experience because as I was watching it I was remembering some obscure dream I had as an even younger child. I was just getting into anime at that age I think, so it probably had some influence on me being interested in anime at all. Also I used to watch pokemon before going to school in the mornings, as did a lot of my friends when we were little. We brought cards into school to trade with eachother but no one ever bothered to learn how to play the game. One kid had an obviously fake parasect card with 1000hp, and everyone thought it was some super rare card worth loads of money. That's all I remember.

Honestly yeah
Back when I had cable tv I would find anime on the weirdest channels. The Sci-Fi channel had a short-lived anime block that I was lucky enough to catch. That's where I watched Gurren Lagann for the first time which probably changed me as a person forever. There was also this foreign media channel named Colors TV had also had a anime block where they showed stuff like Kodocha, Case Closed, and Tenchi Muyo GXP.
