More precisely, many people from that generation in Japan spent their youth channeling their energy into communist revolutionary movements, so it's not uncommon for them to still carry remnants of communist ideology, to varying degrees.
This is especially true for creators. If you read Osamu Tezuka's works closely, it becomes clear that he was, to some extent, influenced by communist ideas.
