I'm just thinking a squad coming in to meddle with this battle specifically just sounds too out of nowhere. Sure it was mentioned, but it was just mentioned in passing and we have not even a silhouette.

I hadn't read otr since chapter 4, and I tried to go back to it the other day, but the infodump first page of chapter 5 was so fucking boring and unnecessary that I gave up.

I hope the next chapter has a lot of pages of tigerboy being brutalized by Chiyou until Kou wakes up, sees the tiger's mangled corpse and finally realizes the kind of demon his mommy really is.

it's definitely a powerup, but it's not a good powerup for them in universe. obviously we as readers know that it can be used whenever he's in danger going forward, but for them, it's risky as hell to rely on. if he faces off against a tougher opponent, there's a good chance he'd just flat out die rather than go unconscious, and that would end up killing both of them. I highly doubt we'll see them abuse this by having him purposefully lose consciousness so she can take him over completely and decimate any enemy they encounter. after this they'll probably both agree that he needs to get stronger
