Emotional experiences like this fade away quickly, because there are not enough memorable special details or singular punchline moment to serve as links to the memories, and it becomes hard to remember how strongly you felt.
Also I think some emotional presentations are kind of uncomfortable in a way (like trauma?) where you tend to shut things off and become repulsed by it. YoriMoi had excessive crying which I think is kinda heavy after you've filled your quota. Takopi from this season will be forgettable in a similar way as YoriMoi even though it's superb experience.
One thing that affects popularity over time is accessibility and clickbait/hook factor. Violet Evergarden with the unusual setting looks like a show that requires a specific mindset, so people watching it will be more spread out in time, so more popularity over time. Whereas a show about some kids growing up might have more immediate appeal. Unless you are too addicted to latest ecchi romcoms. YoriMoi's Antarctica theme also serves as a good clickbait.
