There's no chance that will happen, as it will drop significantly from September. But it should surpass Your Name with over ¥25 billion without any problem, and who knows, maybe even reach ¥30 billion

It will hit at least 25 billion but I don't think it will reach Mugen Train, that would be just insane.

It's gonna be like Empire Strikes Back making less after Star Wars was a social phenomenon. 90 year old grannies that got FOMO'd aren't going to come out for the sequel.

Demon Slayer having a crappy anime that gets way more love than the manga ever did is a tragic irony. It's like what happened to Akira.

Having a circulation of 220m and selling 82m on a year isn't something i would call not getting love.

I wonder if the movie will be released in China. Mugen Train is in the all-time top 10 at the Taiwan box office, and when you see the number of views on Bilibili and the activity on Baidu for the film, it could reach insane numbers if it got released

Japan don't give a shit about Hollywood slop, BUT Japan has long been a stronghold for the Jurassic franchise. Jurassic World back in 2015 made over $75M there, Lost Kingdom made $72M and Dominion made $46M and that movie was ass and came out post-Covid. Rebirth has as of today raked in $766M, so thw Japanese release could give Rebirth the final push it needs to reach a major milestone, possibly $800M+ global.

For now, an agreement is required before setting a release date. We have to wait until the beginning of each month to find out which films from outside China will be released. For example, Final Destination: Bloodlines only obtained approval today, even though the movie has been out since May

That endless line of constant growth past 20 billion is where it's going to get a lower trajectory than MT. Even Spirited Away had some special circumstance where nobody was releasing any competitors for months and months because of some distribution conflict so it was pretty much your only choice if you were going to the movies.

Do you really wanna make me pull up the archived posts? I don't even have to go back too many months ago. You guys are so fucking salty it's unreal. Next thing you're gonna parrot is that it's not impressive since it didn't beat MT's success or something.

Not a slight to you, but i remember when people said Mugen train only managed it's record cause of covid and no hollywood "competition". Looking at the circumstance right now, I think covid might actually hampers it.

I just don't think it will happen for boring reasons and I don't want the tranny to be able to claim victory if it makes less than MT when his starting point was "Demon Slayer is Yokai Watch". It's obviously still in popular consciousness and still considered to have long term substance in Japan, which is what the money and numbers shit is really saying. I was the guy saying Empire Strikes Back made less than Star Wars before the infinite fortress movies were even announced.
