/a/ core
How would you rank the top 5 /a/ core series? If you have to ask what anime you dont belong in this thread, but basically anything in a banner counts. Here's my ranking:

1. Hidamari Sketch - imo the best kept secret of /a/, its basically a show you wont find any sort of fandom for anywhere else on the internet
2. Yotsuba - shes the mascot of /a/ for a reason
3. Aria - another show that /a/ doesnt let get forgotten to time for good reason.
4.Toradora - nuff said
5.NHK - /our show/

1. Rozen Maiden
That's the list. Newfags will never know how important Rozen Maiden was to this website in 2006 because that is the year most of you were born.

But not to /a/. 90% of relevant anime memes from the 2000-2008 period came from /b/. /a/ was an irrelevant slow shithole, especially in the 2003-2005 period.

After that you get to another tier that’s got several more that are very /a/ core but not as much as these series.

This type of discussion would be relevant about a decade ago.
The majority of /a/ currently is just crossposters going to their designated generals, and barely anyone who posts here has seen more than 100 anime.
If you want a "Top 5 Most Culturally Relevant Anime/Manga For /a/" list, it'd be something like
>Rozen Maiden
>JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
>Hidamari Sketch
>Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
>Bakemonogatari
With honorable mentions to:
>Code Geass (certainly /a/, but doesn't capture the character)
>Gurren Lagann (see above)
>Panty & Stocking
>Ojamajo Doremi (hijacked by [s4s] and /bant/)

/a/core is the collection of series we rewatch together throughout the year.

Unrelated to this /a/core idea, I was compiling a sort of "anime canon", like how the Harvard Classics acts as a type of "literary canon". A list of 50~ historically significant and influential works, but I never really post about it since I'm worried I'll get called a faggot for including two Gundam anime and 60s anime instead of Dragon Ball and Naruto.

I actually am well aware of that, yes, but I did put several years behind what I was compiling and went through an initial list of nearly two thousand titles before narrowing it to about 80 currently.
It's hardly a list along the lines of "all my favourite anime". One has to acknowledge that significance extends beyond enjoyment, and a work can be important while not being something you enjoy (favourite anime is Mahoujin Guru Guru, and it's not significant to anything aside from a floundering doujinshi scene and monthly threads on /a/, I really don't like Utena but it's unarguably a significant work that provides a good baseline for understanding various facets of viewing anime in a way akin to literature).

Completely unrelated to your post but related to the thread, but I would like to make a list with the history of all the anime that impacted /a/'s culture together with every big image macros they have popularized.

Being historically significant and influential in an highly immature and commercialized medium is not really a badge of honor that makes something worthy of belonging in a "canon."

Idk man, we already have so many charts with even anime from the 60s. There isn't a need for more. I appreciate your passion but I don't think enough people are interested.

>in an highly immature and commercialized medium
Almost every medium is like that. It doesn't matter.

This is the correct answer. What little unique culture /a/ has anymore can be found in communal streams, especially annual showings that keep people interested in Toradora and Sora no Woto when they'd otherwise be forgotten. The same goes for stuff like SZS and the Seven-Year Laugh.
Anonymous No.281199180 [Report]
>>281197473
That's literally just what canon means in this context, the stuff that's popular enough that it has cultural weight.
