for example, if you play rock paper scissors but no one is allowed to use rock, the game has a clear optimal strategy. if you allow rock, the game is now random. but then you consider the unknown of who you are playing against, and what their personality and past plays are, and suddenly the game gets interesting.
for this to occur in an MMO, it would probably need to be PvP, and one that is comlpex enough to allow multiple "winning" strategies, each with their own counters which are countered by other "winning"\counter strats (think pokemon typings network).
