The problem is not the brutality, the problem is that justice choujin in Nisei spend far more time fighting each other than any actual threat, so the justification for the whole thing feels super hollow. I think there are two things in this series called "Brutal Choujin": One are just asshole "heel" choujin who like to brutalize their opponent. The other is a formal faction that a bunch of Brutal Choujin formed, that later got folded into the dMp (Ramenman mentioned he was still a member pretty late into the original series).

So you have to be Brutal Choujin to join the Brutal Choujin club, but you're not automatically affiliated with it (or the dMp) just because you're a Brutal Choujin.

Given everything we know about what happened, Toei almost certainly animated Nisei entirely because they knew 4kids were interested in the Kinnikuman IP. The biggest piece of evidence is that the first season ends, not only on a cliffhanger, but on a cliffhanger in the middle of a filler arc (so it wasn't even a case of them catching up to the manga and being forced to abruptly end the story in a weird spot, they actively chose to do a filler arc that would take more episodes to animate than they had). That's not something anime really do normally, due to the way Japanese anime funding works.

It's something that only really makes sense if they were specifically trying to bait 4kids into ordering more of it from the beginning.

I have to say there's definitely a tone difference after the whole fire-lantern fights. The amount of on-screen death has skyrocketed this arc, it feels the amount of dick/sex jokes has gone up a lot too.
I don't know if that's viz's work toning it down, since this is a first time reading of it myself, but it is pretty noticeable.

I don't get why Yude wrote Mantaro like they did. It's like they wanted the Early Kinnikuman era where most people shit on Suguru while he was a goofy weakling, but kept it going far beyond a reasonable point. He does "Cowardly teen that suddenly gets brave and courageous by the end." Every arc, if not every fight.


it would even be so bad if the other New Gen characters besides him and Kevin got to shine. Anyone besides them is either a jobber or just doesn't get a fight at all.

and It's not just a Mantaro problem. Suguru for early parts of the revivial pissing and shitting himself in the manga was annoying too. I'm actually glad the anime version left that part of his freak outs in the dust.

IMO Suguru still being a coward is somewhat fine, his whole thing is inspiring others and in turn they inspire him to get over his own cowardice. It fits the whole friendship power theme.
Mantaro's friendship feels more lacking because his allies are fucking useless and only support him with some cheering at the end of the arc. It feels like he's mostly won off his own grit and luck so resetting constantly seems weird.

Literally. About 1/3 to half of the main mini event (all but like two fights) take place in a wrestling ring the rest was a shitty zombie apocalypse story right after Marvel had a Vampire apocalypse event. Hell even Spiderman gets back to his roots and has a few fights.
