That's a possibility, certainly. We still know basically nothing about their relationship aside from her being his friend and benefactor. I doubt it's going to be as heavy-handed as him just being a Yuu expy in his youth, but I could see him having a moment where he realizes that Yuu's relationship with the sisters is similar to the relationship he had with Subaru.

I really want Kazuki to win, but for some reason I can't shake the feeling that Sakura is going to pull off the upset.
Harem seems nearly unattainable.

Meanwhile Sakura is going through the exact same shit as Yuu, and slowly proving herself as an equal to Miwa, which is kind of the bare minimum for Yuu's character development. Once he stands on equal grounds with the sisters, hed still have to choose one, then explain to the dad that took them in why he's diddling one of his daughters while making the two others cry. It also means that he has to continue supporting the losers professionally while being with the winner. It's a punch in the gut. If Sakura wins, the dad stays happy, yuu gets what he wants regarding the sisters, and he can equally support them the same way. There might be some crying but at least there's copium where they can claim theyre still family

See, I think Miwa's ultimate arc will be working up the courage to tell dad that she wants to quit shogi and do something else with her life, which will be tied into convincing him to accept her love for Yuu. There will be a final match against Sakura where she finally pulls off the win, and she'll tell Yuu to go comfort Miwa, in a callback to the way he consoled Sakura in their first arc.
